Nanputuo Temple
Nanputuo Temple is one of the best places to understand the calmer side of Xiamen.
The temple dates back to the Tang dynasty and sits against the hills on Xiamen Island, with the sea nearby and Wulao Peak behind it. That setting is part of why it feels so peaceful.
Why I’d recommend it:
It’s not just a temple stop. It’s the kind of place that slows you down a little and lets you feel the city’s softer rhythm, which is honestly a big part of what makes Xiamen different.
What To Do In Nanputuo:
Spend some time walking through the temple grounds
Notice the incense, chanting, and quieter rhythm of the space
Climb the path behind the temple for a great view over the city
Don’t leave without trying Nanputuo’s famous pie — it is one of the best-known local snacks and an easy souvenir to bring back
